For more than seven decades, Grayline Coaches has been helping people travel safely, comfortably and reliably throughout the UK and Europe.

From our beginnings as a small family business in 1955 to the modern coach operator, we are today, our success has always been built on the same foundations: family values, hard work, reliability and outstanding customer service.

Our history is more than just dates and milestones. It is the story of the people, vehicles and customers who have helped make Grayline Coaches what it is today.

1955 - Where It All Began

The beginning of the Grayline story.

Grayline Coaches was established in 1955 when Mr Alexander Gray, a former athlete, purchased the coach company where he had previously worked.

Alexander was a man of determination and ambition. Having already enjoyed success as a footballer and gymnast, he brought the same discipline, dedication and competitive spirit to his new business.

From those early beginnings, he established the principles that would become the foundation of Grayline Coaches — hard work, high standards and putting customers first.

The Family Grows

During the early 1970s, Alexander's three sons joined the family business.

Each brought different skills and experience, helping to develop Grayline Coaches into the business it is today.

Brian Gray

Tours & Marketing

Brian's extensive travels throughout Europe gave him valuable knowledge of the touring industry. He developed the Grayline's touring programme and marketing, helping to establish the company's presence across the UK and Europe.

Alan Gray

Finance & Business

Having studied accountancy, Alan took responsibility for the company's financial management and played an important role in the continued development of the business.

Gordon Gray

Workshop & Engineering

A qualified engineer, Gordon became Workshop Manager and was responsible for maintaining the company's growing fleet.

His focus on vehicle maintenance, safety and reliability established standards that continue to influence our workshop team today.

A Family Business Built to Last - Generations of Experience

As Grayline Coaches continued to grow, so did its reputation.

Our coaches travelled throughout Britain and Europe, taking customers on holidays, school trips, day excursions, corporate journeys and countless special occasions.

Over the years, vehicles have changed, technology has developed and the transport industry has evolved — but our commitment to our customers has remained the same.

What hasn't changed is the family behind the business.

Continuing the Legacy - Grayline Coaches Today

Today, Grayline Coaches remains firmly family owned and operated.

Paul Gray and Stuart Gray oversee the day-to-day running of the business, supported by Alan Gray, while Brian Gray continues to play an active role, sharing his knowledge and many decades of experience.

Together with our dedicated office staff, professional drivers and skilled engineers, they continue to build on the foundations laid by Alexander Gray more than 70 years ago.
